Feed the lofty wildlife with a visit to the Giraffe Centre in Nairobi. This non-profit organization was originally opened in order to protect the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe that is found only on the plains of East Africa. Since its inception the program has been highly successful and has re-introduced pairs of breeding Rothschild’s giraffe into various national parks in Kenya. The center also offers free environmental education to young Kenyans and promotes conservation efforts of endangered species in the country. While on your visit you will have the opportunity of getting close to a giraffe or two as well as feed them and watch as they delicately use their long tongues to take the food from your hand. There are also a few warthogs that roam freely amongst the giraffes and a gift shop for visitors to enjoy. Unique and exhilarating, this visit will get you as close as you possibly can to giraffe in Kenya.
Visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage in Nairobi and ‘adopt’ a baby elephant. There are unfortunately still many elephants that are lost to poaching in Kenya, leaving behind orphaned babies that cannot survive without their mothers. The Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage takes in these vulnerable baby elephants where they are hand-reared on infant formula until they are old enough to look after themselves.
Lunch: Tamambo Karen Blixen Coffee Gardens
Return to colonial Africa with a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum. This house and surrounding land was once home to famous author Karen Blixen who penned the novel Out of Africa which later become an award-winning movie. The house was built in 1912 and Blixen lived there for over 10 years, running a large and successful coffee plantation. The museum offers continuous guided tours of the house, which features rooms designed in both the original decor and with props from the 1985 film, while the grounds feature original equipment from the coffee plantation and are also available to tour.

Lake Nakuru National Park is famous for hosting both white and black rhinoceros, reintroduced after many years’ absences. Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, impala, Kirk’s dik-dik, bushbuck, topi, buffalo, ellipsen waterbuck, eland and giraffe, all are there. Famous for its rich wildlife, the Masai Mara is home to not only the “Big 5” (elephant, lion, buffalo, rhino and leopard) but also many birds (over 500 species of birds have been recorded). Along the rivers, crocodiles and hippos lie in wait. Composed of vast rolling plains and hills, the Masai Mara is dotted with umbrella thorn acacias and thorny thickets.
