The private park also has a higher wildlife-to-area ratio than any of Kenya’s national parks, making game viewing rewarding and peaceful. At Sweetwaters you will be able to seek out the Big Five and many other endangered species such as the black rhino, Grevy’s zebra and the African wild dog, while giraffes, lions and elephants are easily located. Many of the chimps that are taken to the sanctuary have been orphaned due to the abuse of man, and often arrive traumatized and ill. Through hard work and dedication, the staff assists the chimps in their rehabilitation and integration into one of the two groups within the reserve. The chimpanzees here can never be reintroduced into the wild and guests can ‘adopt’ one for a fee. The revenue collected goes back into the sanctuary to aid its ongoing operations.

Park offers landscapes of remarkable contrasts: arid zones alongside the lush oases of the swamps. The ecosystem of this low rainfall region depends on water from Mount Kilimanjaro (5895 m). A particular feature of Amboseli is the possibility to take picture postcard photos of elephants against the backdrop of Kilimanjaro. Covering an area of 392 km2 the park is, in addition to elephants, home to numerous animals (giraffe, wildebeest, antelope, buffalo, lion, cheetah, leopard and hyena …) as well as 400 species of birds (pelicans, kingfishers, crakes, hamerkop and 47 types of raptor) who live alongside the Masai villages.
